Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco, a Canadian-American singer and songwriter. Her albums span over 20 years. Her songs are classified by the label as folk or alternative rock. However, they also have influences from hip hop music, jazz, and punk. A feminist icon widely recognized as Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco was the founder of the DIY movement being one of the pioneers to establish her own label the year 1990. DiFranco is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They were introduced in The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father is of Italian heritage, while her mother comes from Montreal. Ani Difrasco wrote and recorded the track "32 Flavors". It is featured on the sixth album Not a Pretty Girl by Ani DiFranco that was which was released in the year 1996. Another version of the track is included on the movie soundtrack of 1999's Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco made an apology public in 2013, following the revelation that it became clear that she'd planned a three-day seminar on a Louisiana plantation. The event was cancelled, but many (including the news media) failed to consider it a gesture of regret. DiFranco issued an additional apology only a few days later. Although known as Little Peoplesinger, she has worked with many musicians and artists, from Pete Seeger through Chuck D up to Prince. The singer lives in New Orleans. Ani has the name Kristen Ford. At 14, she began to compose her own music. Her teens were spent performing them in bars as well as coffee shops. DiFranco went to Buffalo State College after graduating at the age of 16 from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts.
